Child Support Awards in Oregon
How does the court determine how much child support to award?
Although there are a host of factors that determine how much child support may be awarded by a court, the general calculation is done by State Guidelines. The amount of income of each parent, child care expenses, medical expenses and other items are entered into a calculator which produces a guideline amount of support. This calculator can be accessed at the Oregon Department of Justice.
It is important that all figures and rebuttals are calculated accurately the first time. Blair & Vestigo, PC is familiar with state guidelines and can assist you in achieving proper support amounts.
What if I can't afford my child support?
If you are in a position where you cannot pay your present amount of child support, you may petition the Division of Child Support or the State of Oregon directly by submitting a modification request. A modification request generally requires that you show a substantial change in circumstances regarding your ability to pay support.
If you find yourself in a position where you cannot afford to pay your support, we may be able to help. We know how to evaluate a substantial change in circumstance and advocate for this in court. Please call Blair & Vestigo, PC to discuss your options.
