Spousal Support Awards in OregonHow does the court determine how much spousal support to award in a divorce?Spousal support is determined by classification. There are three types of spousal support awards:
Compensatory support is designed to compensate one party who made significant contributions to the education, training and skills of the other party. The court may also award support that it believes is "just and equitable" in the circumstances. Spousal Maintenance is often employed where a large discrepancy in income exists between the two parties or in a long-term marriage where transitional or compensatory support would not be appropriate. How much spousal support will the court award? There is no answer to this question. An award is always based on the facts presented to the court. At Blair & Vestigo, PC, we have experience presenting facts in a clear and articulate manner. It is important that the court be advised of all the circumstances that will shape a spousal support award. Please call our office at 503-655-7199 to discuss these issues.
